How they display the carrier name on the Notification bar

see, the "T-mobile" is showing in the notification bar.

Online ordered the 16 GB US version, on the ATT network.

There is no branding in notification bar...it is lower-center on the lock screen and when you drag down the notification bar.

At Settings go to Mobile Network settings and uncheck "show mobile network"

It is a feature that comes with some ROMs, like Motorola and Miui amongst others...
But if you want the logo (instead of the name) of your carrier to be shown in the status bar just install the free app "Roaming Info" from Google Play (can't insert links, just search for it).
