How to answer calls when screen has timed out?

I've just got my new Fascinate on the 3/08, rooted & installed EB16 SC 2.8 (that would be FroYo, right?).
When it goes into locked mode & a call comes in I see the unlock puzzle for a split second (the one with 9 dots), but before I ave a chance to unlock it the Green answer & Red ignore screen comes up. Hitting Answer or ignore does nothing.
Am I doing something wrong or is the phone messed up?
Well it's a nice little computer, but I really need to use it as a phone.
Where do I go from here?

you have to PULL the answer button over to the right.
