Android Central Question

Hey! I just bought a p30 pro and loving the features it has. I'm just having some issues with pictures I take into the sun or even sunrises/sets. I get massive lens flare. Anyone an idea how I can avoid this?

I know it's best to avoid sunlight and when I did this with my previous phone (Xiami) it just made some small dotts. But the pro is make big circles with couleurs even when I take pictures from sunrise. And with a sunrise it is difficult not to aim at the sun :)

Unfortunately there isn't anything you can do about it. Professional lenses for DSLR cameras have special coatings to cut down on such things, but that amount or work isn't going into a phone that has what compares to a toy camera. Some may be better than others in this regard, but there's nothing you can do as the user in situations where you need to point directly at a light source.

Hi, welcome!

Every phone will handle it differently, but not much else you can do besides what's mentioned here in the thread.

I went back and looked at photos I'd taken on my trip to the coast in January. I got up well before dawn and many mornings saw me at the harbor and beach taking photos. Some were straight on with the sun half way up. I also had photos from the lighthouse of sunset with the sun sinking in the sky with some of the total orb and others half set. No flares. Why? I deleted the photos with flares.

Take lots of shots. It's not film so it costs you nothing and sometimes changing the angle just slightly makes the difference between a flare and no flare.

As already pointed out, some cameras handle lens flare better than others.
Make sure the lens and its covering are clean.
If you have a protector over the lens, try removing it.
