Android Central Question

I'm surprised how hard it is to backup data, or find out how to do it.

I have Samsung S10 phone. I use video and photo apps that create project files on the phone.

How do I backup those files off the phone? I have iDrive, which backs things up. And I use Samsung smart switch, which backs up entire phone. I'd like to do this seamlessly in the background so I'm always protected. And the other thing, when I look on my SmartSwitch backup files, I can't find any of the project files, or even the apps. I'm pretty sure I told that app to backup everything.

thanks!

I haven't seen any background backup apps, but video and pictures should be backed up automatically. Look at Google Photos. If they're not there, look in your account (on the phone) and make sure that syncing is enabled.

Google drive I think best option for files, but definitely back up using Smart Switch on the PC

can you just go to your phone anymore and go to backup and restore and back up and then when I get my new S21 click on restore. I just know sometimes it will save my Wi-Fi passwords and then one time it didn't. And I need to know the best way to back up to because I usually just do it on my phone and then restore and it puts everything back the way it was even my home screen and folders.

Or do you recommend starting over fresh with like apps? I just don't want to hit restore and have all my apps start downloading at once I want to pick which ones I want. But I do usually like my home screen still look the same with my folders and stuff.

You can still with your samsung account if you backed up, also on the pc Smart Switch backs up.everthing and can restore any time with that

Your welcome!

I just want my wifi passwords saved and also will all my apps makes me resign in with username and passwords. Like now I just use my fingerprint for certain apps. Will I have to enter everything new the 1st time? Just Curious! I have Last Pass password manager so I will install it 1st to be sure. I hope my S10 + gets the update soon. Isn't it that unlocked gets the major ones last and that the security unlocked has been getting quicker? I already got January security last week. I keep checking every day for the Android update with 3.0

Yeah with wifi settings it stores all that, with passwords probably like bank accounts will need to put passwords then setup with fingerprint. The unlocked version been getting security patches faster then carrier and carrier getting major OS updates first , how crazy is that lol .

That's what I thought. Thanks! I just hope to get the update before our new phones so we can check out 3.0. Been watching you tube videos and their is some new cool features.

I went to back up and did a backup just to be current but I think it auto does one every so often like once a week maybe. But that was a Samsung backup than I saw google backup on and it mentioned saved Wifi passwords and stuff I clicked on it and it said backed up 3 hours ago so it must auto backup also. I just need to decide should I start fresh or just let everything download to the new phone and than just get rid of what I don't use instead of downloading apps separately. My home screen is cluttered with 10 folders with several apps in them and some single apps by themselves it's a mess LOL!

It should be soon , I have to check my s10+ lol I've ignored it for a while. I usually press restore once I open a new phone , start from set-up process and go from there .

Well maybe I'll go through my apps now and delete what I don't use and clean up my home screens and then do a backup right before I get the new phone and then just let it restore. I just checked again still no update.
