How to block unsolicited spam texts.

I usually read that I should hit the three dots in the upper right hand corner but that reveals no option to assist me in blocking the spam.

Which phone?
Which version of android?
Which carrier?
Which SMS app?

Normally the best you can do is to block the phone number, but they are usually spoofed.
If the SMS spam is coming from an email address, add a contact with that email then block the contact.

Some of the carriers have an automated system you can forward the message to thus helping everyone.
