How to change email background color

Is there a way to change the background color of read emails to another color instead of gray? The gray color makes the emails so hard to read and follow. I have checked the brightness of the phone but this does not help. I would rather see the background always white and emails not read in bold. My phone has android 4.1.2 version..

Not much flexibility with the stock email app. Try something like aqua mail.

How secure are these applications like aqua mail or K9? If I set up accounts there, are they also recording my logins and passwords?

Turn off power saving mode or turn off Background Color power save in it:
Settings -> Power saving mode

Presumably no. But you never know. I would contact the developer directly. Welcome to the unfettered android app market.
