[HOW TO] Changing out themed Swype.apk

Hmmm

I did Lttlwing16's instructions step by step and the swype keyboard I wanted (ED01 CommROM ~1.3 TeamCarbon/BigLoofs_STEEL BLUE V2.0) didn't show up. I didn't get any force closes, and my swype keyboard changed and it looks different... but not like the one in the picture for GrainOsand's theme pics...

I take it back... I did ONE thing different - I used Grain's 'libSwypeCore.so' file from this theme's zip file, instead of the one available for download on this thread.

Could that be the problem? Or would using the themer's own libSwypeCore.so file be the right way to go?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

assuming your using the themed swype.apk from the extracted theme, and not one of the .zip themed swype's he also has on his page.....try using the libswypecore.co I posted on the OP...see if that works..

Tried your version of the file.. No luck. I'll post a screenshot of what my Swype looks like... It looks nothing like Grain's (and yes, I pulled his Swype.apk from his theme.)

huh...It installed fine for me.. I now have the one from his theme installed .. (I still like the Nitro Dark better, but to each their own..) it appears you have gotten a hold of one of the .zip files instead of the one from his theme.. give me a minute and I'll link you up to the .apk ... : )

I actually downloaded his theme, then extracted the Swype.apk file from the System/app folder. Weird.

3,262KB file size, dated 8/1/08

Here you go brother..not sure what went wrong...try this SwypeSB.apk....obvioulsy you'll want to change the name to Swype.apk before you paste it into the system/app folder or it won't take.. here's the link..SwypeSB.apk

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks, wing! I'll let you know. =)

Follow-up: Worked great this time with the new file you sent. Thanks!!! Still not sure why the file I extracted from his theme zip didnt work, but oh well. It's all good now.

Thanks again!

Were you looking for the swype from his screenshots that had the black keys with the blue lettering? If so I believe that was from his earlier version of Steel Blue - 1.3

Thanks Sharky. I must have pulled the file from his newer version or something. Wing got me straightened out though. Thanks again.

Why is this so damn frustrating? I did a factory reset, re-installed ComRom 1.3 (because I like it) and added the Crysis 3.3 Circle theme... and now I don't have Swype on my phone.

I followed every step, in order, on this thread - even downloaded the files in the thread to use - and nothing.... now it doesn't even list Swype as one of the input options!!!

- - - - - OK, I figured out the problem... I emailed the files from my laptop to my phone, and for some reason, my phone only downloaded the first 20k of each file. Once I pressed the button that says to 'Download Complete Message' or something, it worked fine. Sorry!!!

Help, please!

What point did you lose the Swype? Or did you just bundle flash all this?

Thanks for the reply, Wing. I solved the problem... Evidently I had my phones email settings set to only download a portion of file attachments... Once I told it to download complete attachments out worked just fine. Its good to know you're still following posts from this old thread. Thanks again.
