How to connect Note 8 to a VGA Data Show?

What is a vga data show?

I believe, he is talking about a projector. Folks call them data shows in some organizations. I learnt that a month back myself too :D

You're going to need something like Samsung Media hub and then a HDMI to VGA cable.

Go buy this.

I bought the AllShare Cast Hub. It is pricey, but gives you a wireless connection. I use kt in my classroom and I can mirror my device with it. It works great for video and sound as well.

This seems neat. Can you hook up an HDMI to VGA converter to this? Unfortunately most, but not all, of the projectors where I work are VGA.

Yes you can. That is exactly my setup. I already had the converter from before, and this hooked uo.perfectly to it.

I have the galaxy smart dock. I bought it so I could output my note 2 screen to my tv. It does definitely work with the note 8 as well though. It connects to my tv via its built in hdmi port. Hdmi can be converted using a cheap $2-3 adaptor to dvi, I dont know if they make a hdmi to vga adaptor. The dock also has a 3.5mm audio output plug so you can out put that seperately.

The smart dock retails for $99 but ive seen it cheaper online for as low as $75.

Ive heard the wireless dongle has a little lag in the from what you see on the phone or tablet to what you see on the screen. This does not happen AT ALL with the smart dock. Also, the dock has 3 usb ports, which I use one of my ports to connect a wireless keyboard/mouse combo up to. It also comes with a 2amp usb charger and long usb cable that can be used to either power the dock or the tablet seperately if you want. It basically should sell itself but ive never seen much advertisement so many people probably dont kno what it does or all the extra stuff it comes with. Hope this helps you!

That sounds like a great set up. I really like the wireless the feature so I can walk around the classroom. And I have not had any problem with lag. That might be because I have a wireless router that I set up for myself in my classroom.

So, can I just walk into a room without internet, set up the Allshare Media Hub and then connect my Note 8 to it? I have an HP HDMI to VGA converter. What brand do you have or will any converter ( not an adapter I assume) work?

I bought the Samsung S3 HDMI dongle (11 pin) but that is almost the same price as this wireless Allshare Cast Hub. Seems like wireless is the way to go.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but AllShare uses WiDi. You shouldn't need a preexisting network for it to work as it directly connects to the hub.

It does use wifi direct, and I imagine the only time you will see the lag I was talking about is when watching high bandwidth content or play high bandwith games. Regular stuff such as simple classroom apps or small low definition videos should be fine. However, if you live or work in area that has alot of wifi access points or wireless traffic you may experience issues. Results may very is all Im trying to say I guess. If its was me I think id go wired and avoid all issues especially if the the hub or the smart dock are the same price.

There are advantages to wired except that there is no assurance that any of the wired solutions actually work. I am going to try one today. Also, the ability to move around and not be tethered to a podium is really nice. If one were to be stuck to a podium then the Note 10.1 would probably have been a better idea ( except that the Note 8 is way better in my opinion).

For a wired connection a straight VGA connector must exist except I can't find one unfortunately. This would be an MHL ( 11 pin) to VGA solution.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. It has already been answered about not needing a wireless connection in the room. This is the converter I have, and it works fine. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU2798948
