How to connect samsung s6 to wifi network in cuba

Welcome to Android Central! Do you really mean wi-fi, or are you talking about the cellular network for mobile data?

Does the phone actually detect the hotspots? Are you sure they're actual networks, rather than signals from a wireless printer, for example?

They are actual networks because my Iphone6 and my samsung grand are able to use the same network but the brand new expensive good looking SAMSUNG GALAXY S6 CAN'T.

Just checking--do you know if the networks require a proxy?

No need for the all caps, I can hear you.;)

Some wifi connections use a proxy as an intermediary to deliver internet traffic. On your other Android phone that's connecting, go to the Wi-fi settings, long-press the wi-fi network it's connected to, tap Modify Network, and see if a proxy is set up.

Another possibility is that there just isn't the bandwidth in your area to make a connection--you might have to wait until there's less traffic. See if you can connect very late at night/early in the morning, when fewer people may be awake and trying to connect.

Travelling to Cuba tomorrow and have exactly the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy 5
All my other devices (laptop, blackberry, iphone, ipad) connect to various WIFI networks but impossible to connect with my Samsung Galaxy 5.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

I just got back from Cuba thinking my Galaxy S5's wifi hardware was broken, since it couldn't find any hotspots even in safe mode. My laptop and iphone6 was able to connect fine to the same exact hotspots. But the S5 can't even see it because it can't search on the channels. The Cuban message boards talk about rooting the phone with apk iRoot, but the results are suspect.
How do you configure the wifi (through developer options) so that it could search the other channels?

I've just came back from Cuba and had the same problem.
It is not the compatibility issue but some sort of regional lock.
My S6 Edge worked just fine in the UK and Spain but the minute I landed in Cuba I started having problems with wifi.
Phone would not see any wifi networks. I had HTC One with me and that one has worked just fine.
I thought it might be softelware issue so i did the factory reset, after which phone saw the networks but would not connect to them.
After switiching wifi on/off or restarting the phone networks were gone again and i could only see them after another factory reset.
I thought the phone was broken but the minute I landed in Europe everything worked perfectly fine again. Phone could see wifi hot spot from my Htc One and another from Nikon camera too (not in Cuba). So compatibility issue isnout of the question.
I think once phone figures out its in Cuba it hides/blocks all wifi networks. It explains why you can see them straight after factory reset, before phone connects to mobile network and figures out where it is.
The question is why it does that and if the problem only happens in Cuba.

I have Samsung Galaxy S6 and had a same problem in Cuba.
After the trip, I contacted Samsung on this issue.

Their official answer is, "yes, Galaxy S6's wifi is blocked in Cuba because Broadcom (wifi chip supplier) designed it. Samsung will fix this issue in the next update (Android Marshmallow update)"

I think the wifi is blocked based on GPS. If the phone is located in Cuba according to GPS signal, the wifi is automatically blocked.

Wow. I wonder if that is true of Samsung tablets as well? I wonder why Broadcom felt the need to do this?

I just got back from cuba and had the same problem with my S6. It doesn't seem like samsung have fixed the issue. Is this only a problem in cuba or have they 'blocked' wifi in other countries too?

Same thing for me ,in cuba my samsung s6 was searching and searching for wifi and could be able to find one, all my other device works fine, detect wifi with no problem in cuba ( iphone 6, ipad mini 3, surface pro 3 ) Hope they will fix that problem soon ,all my friends was laughing at me about my phone and i wont tell you what they said :-\

so does anyone have a solution to this problem? I am going back to Cuba with my S6 Edge and I know I will have the same problem again

I have same problem in cuba with my galaxy note 2, galaxy note 4 and galaxy s4.
same problem with these phone in Havana city , holguine city and gardadelavaca beach at club amigo hotel wifi.

anyboby know solution ?

Hi everyone, I just returned from Cuba and was having the exact same issue throughout my trip: Wifi constantly scanning but not finding any networks. The frustrating thing is it hasn't come back when returning! I am now bak in Europe with no wifi accessibility. Any proposed fixes other than routing or factory resetting the phone? thx!

**Update 27Aug: yesterday after returning from Cuba a week ago I woke up to a functional Wifi without any actions from me.

I had tried every settings change I could think of to no effect and then it just worked. If it's true that Samsung blocks wifi within Cuba then although it sounds very strange perhaps it took them this long to figure out i was back.. in any case problem solved it seems.
