How to copy and paste in Nexus 5 ( kitkat 4.4.2 )

Hi guys
I need some help please.
Having swapped from iPhone to nexus 5, I must admit one thing, copy and paste on iPhone works so much better and easier.
It is a bit frustrating in the nexus 5, unless I am doing something wrong ( I hope so ...).

So for example, I open google chrome, and I want to copy the web address.
For instance, I type ebay.com on the address bar, then I try to copy this address and paste it in notes ( keep ).

Out of 10 times, it works one time.
The way I do it! I press and hold the address bar! ebay.com becomes blue and has like two arrows on each side, and at the same time a "paste" option comes up, but not "copy" !
At the top right, I get 4 icons, one of them with scissors.
While the address bar ( ebay.com ) is blue, I press and hold the icon that has like 2 squares , the "copy" option comes up, I press on it, but it does not copy!
I go to notes, make a new note, press and hold, I get the option "paste", I tap on it, and it pastes the text I copied somehow hours ago...
So it does not work.

I also tried copying from word to Whatsapp and vice versa and it's the same issue...

Please tell me what I'm doing wrong, I kind of miss the way it worked on the iPhone

I think I found out what's wrong...
This copy and paste from chrome only works when the phone is help in landscape mode, it does not work when the phone is held the normal way
I find it a bit strange.
On Whatsapp, to copy a text, I must press and hold the text, then tap once on the square, not press and hold, so it works differently.
So I guess it works in different ways depending on the app.

Unless maybe someone here has other ideas.

In Chrome, just do a light tap on the 2 squares (copy), not a long press. Only long press on the text you wish to select first.
