AC Question

So today I got a small update on my Nexus 4 (running Lollipop 5.1.1). Although I think it was mainly just a security update, there's been a change to the app list which I don't fully understand.

Previously you had to swipe left and right to move between screens to launch apps. Now it's a vertically scrolling list - fine. But there are also four additional icons seemingly chosen at random. Unfortunately it's picked four apps which I barely use which is a pain. Is there any way to customise this?

Welcome to Android Central! No, I think it determines the list based on your ongoing app activity. You can turn it off by long-pressing any empty part of the homescreen, tap Settings, then turn off App Suggestions. This modification was from a recent update to the Google app, by the way.
