I have a LG Nexus 4 16GB running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Because it's 16GB and that's the highest it can get, with no microSD card slot, I want to use the full 16GB to the best of my ability. I have about 300 photos and videos included on the official Google Photos app. They are all backed up and synced. However, as mentioned, I want to save space as much as possible so I want to delete the local copies on the Photos app. They are all on Google Drive, but when I try to delete local copies, it asks me whether I want to delete them from "everywhere", including Drive. I ofcourse don't want this. So after some research I clicked on "Free up device storage" to "remove photos and videos that have already been backed up". When I did this, it did show them getting deleted. After it said something similar to "no more can be removed". I was happy until I went back to the photos folder and they were all there still! I went to the bin and nothing was in there! Please help! How do you delete local copies without deleting them from "everywhere"?????????!!!!!

Hi, within the Google Photos app, swipe left to right to reveal the side menu - select device folders. From here you can delete the photos on your device. Make sure the cloud to the right of the folder is blue, this will mean the photos have been backed up. If it's grey select it so they can be backed up before you delete them.

As for Google Drive, this is only showing you your backed up photos. You can disable it within the Photos app.
