i noticed when going through the messages app on my new phone that when clicking on a contact(my girlfriend), in the options there is a category called shared content. When going into this, it has just about every picture we have ever sent each other, including ones that were deleted long ago.

How do I go about permanently removing them from the account?

Most of them are probably in either system folders or folders owned by the text app, so you can't unless you root. Then you use a file manager to find them and delete them.

I would also like to know how to delete shared content pictures on galaxy s10
I responded to you in other thread you asked .

Hi, welcome!

Try going in gallery choose a picture and tap share on the menu choose link sharing should be something to change there.

The same issue exists in my S9 and Note 9. Every suggestion has been tried and does not remove them. Pics not in file, gallery, shared link file.

Must be a way to remove. Assistance would be appreciated.
