How to delete trash emails Nexus S 4g

Can't find any "select all" just "unselect all" all figure over 3000 in trash and I keep getting deleted email back into my current email. Could this be the cause or should I try another app.

You cant delete emails from the trash through the phone (Gmail, I assume). You actually have to delete them while logged into your computer and it will remove them from the trash folder on the phone. Its a pain, I know, but such is life.
