Android Central Question

Hello,

I bought Cat S41 and noticed yesterday that update 1.019.01 (1.2 GB) is ready to be installed. Google says this is related to update from Android 7 to Android 8. However, many users experience issues on Android 8.

01 Is there any way to disable automatic updates of Android (or any other)?
02 How to delete the installation file from cache?
(03 How to uninstall Google apps?)

I do not intend to restart the phone until I do this. I need to use Internet.

Many thanks,
Pepito

Booting into Recovery and performing a Cache Partition wipe may remove the downloaded files.
This usually works, but keep in mind that the phone will soon re-download the update and you'll be in the same spot again.

There are ways to prevent updates from installing, but it varies by phones. For example, on my LG V20, it's as simple as force closing a system update app to block the installation, leaving the update file sitting dormant on my phone. On others, you have to root the phone and make a system level change to block it.

Hopefully someone with direct knowledge of the phone can chime in, but the CAT phones aren't very popular.

It still might auto update after a few weeks after the update is out. Rooting the phone will keep it from updating (the update will "fail" at 35%-30% - because that's the point at which it's found that the phone is rooted), or once it's rooted, you can freeze the OTA app. (All it does is system updates.) However that means no more security patches.

The usual "problems going from 7 to 8 are apps that haven't been modified to work with 8 yet (any that haven't been belong in the dustbin of history - 9's been out for a while and 10's coming out later this year), and a totally new user interface, that takes a bit of getting used to.
