How to disable 'not enough space' restrictions?

I've recently formatted my SD card on my Huawei P8 lite to be recognised as internal storage - third party apps confirm this was successful. However, the phone still generates a push notification stating 'Not enough space on phone' and the Google Play store refuses to allow updates due to apparent lack of space. How do I circumvent this, either by disabling these safeguards or better integrating the SD card as internal storage?
