Arghh I have the phone charging in my bedroom. Sometimes I would use the alarm feature on it. However, when I'm not using the alarm feature, a couple of sounds outputted by the phone is starting to annoy me.

1) WHen the battery is fully charged, it makes a beep
2) WHen 3G signal goes in/out, it beeps a few times.

Anyway to turn these sounds off without turning of messaging notification and alarm?

Settings > Sound & Display > System volume > turn it all the way down.

I actually installed QuickSettings from the Market (free). I just keep it on vibration only (especially for classes, etc.) The settings carry over for reboots.

It's ~2 clicks vs 5...

+ Eleventy Billion for the use of QuickSettings... I've had my eye on it for a while but forgot about it (was lost in my list of "potential apps") and rediscovered it yesterday and finally downloaded... AWESOME beyond belief... love the fact that all my sound settings, radio settings, unlock settings, and screen settings are in a one-stop-shop location... and I love the fact that I can turn on / off or change the screen time-out with 2 clicks! Perfect for changing on the fly...

I use Tasker to turn my phone to Vibrate only mode at night when the phone is charging. Tasker isn't the cheapest solution for this problem, but Tasker can set up a bunch of different automated tasks (which makes it worth it for me)

I still want to be notified of a call or msg. I just don't want to hear the system sounds. Vibration won't work for me.

Tasker can be set up with any number of triggers and actions. So, if you want the system volume to be 0 at night rather than vibrate, you can set it up to do that. Its pretty slick like that. Still, it may be overkill for what you are trying to do, but if you are okay with setting up all the different scripts and whatnot, it can be a pretty powerful automation tool.

Did you go to the setting I suggested? Just go and READ the label, it specifically tells you what this volume slider controls - "sets volume for touch feedback and power on/off sound". Calls use the Ringer volume, while SMS/email uses the Notifications volume. There is also a separate Media volume control.

I also use QuickSettings and is a great (and free) utility to control all the phone settings from a central screen. Highly recommend.
