[HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No root!)

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

i tried to go back and format the card and reload the image, and add the gapps. when i put the card back in the nook i got a message telling me to go to this site, http://nook.linuxhacker.ru/, and download some file. when i tried to go to the address, i got messages saying that the address does not go anywhere.

am i ever going to be able to go to the android market and download the espn app, or angry birds? i'm trying. i'm really trying to follow your instructions. i got to the point where i could surf the net, and see the cool android stuff, but i cannot download anything from the market because it says that my device is not supported and i do not have any android devices associated with my account.

just a little frustrated. is there any hope? :(

I had this issue too. I found my problem was I moved the whole CM7 FOLDER to the sdcard and I was supposed to move the CM7 update file (ends in .zip and is located in the CM7 folder). Hope this helps!

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

Well I have it installed on the SD card (ScanDisk Class 4 4gb) and everything loads ok, but the screen becomes unresponsive from the start. Everything appears to be normal other then the touchscreen not working. Any suggestions? I have used all the links to get the image files and such from this post.

I found I needed to use a more recent version of CM7.1 (other than the one linked to in the instructions/first message) Re-do the SDCard work using this CM7.1 stable version, 100.3MB, instead. http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip I hope this helps.

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

I've completed all these steps and have CM7 up and running. Now when I go to the Market all apps are showing "Your device is not compatible with this app". There are TONS of solutions out there, however, I wanted your take on this since your previous directions were dead on.

Thanks.

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

:'( Yargh! I did this successfully for my Nook in October but I am having trouble doing this for my daughter's Nook. I had to re-size the SDcard partition so it could accept the CM7 file. I put the SDcard into the Nook. Turn it on. I see Loading ... I see the Linux penguin and lots of code. The Nook hangs up with the last few lines saying:
Looking for the install images ...
Initial Install files not found.
Please downlaod it from nook.linuxhacker.ru
andput on first partition of this SD Card
the name should start with updatei-cm and end with .zip

Please help this n00b.

I got my answers. Thanks!

i am having the same problem. what was your answer?

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

I have the same problem with a DYNAELEC 8gb class4 sd. I used the recommended format routine SDFormatter version 3.1. I used the WIN7 format routine,as well. I tried a few times to get the SDcard to work. The last effort I got the same android logo just spinning untill I powered the NOOK down. The verbose sceen output during bootup points to an SDcard problem. So, as soon as I ride into town, I'll get a premium SDcard. The 8gb cards I have I bought on sale for $8.00 per card. I guess I should find a find a data transfer speed test diagnostic software to see if the cars are up to Class 4 standards.

You need to use the 7.1 stable or above.

Then perhaps you should go out and buy the N2A card and not have to worry about it......

Yeah, but how much of that is actually formatted?

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

Thanks for posting these instructions. I tried three different install instructions for running CM7 off a SD card, none of which worked before finding your instructions, which were straight, to the point, and very easy to follow. Once I found your instructions it only took me about 20 minutes to Root my Nook and now I have a great Android Tablet. Many, Many, Many Thanks for an AWESOME How To Guide for us Nook Color Rooting Noobies!:)

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

New guy here, thought I'd share this info I picked up regarding the testing of SD cards. The common test used is from CrystalDew.The program is ChrystalDiskMark.(free)_just google it up,download and install.Version 2.2 or Version 3.0 works.(Windows program).
You want to run the test on your card(identified as E:\removable usually).Set the test to 50mb and 5 passes.
The results give you the speed your card can read and write blocks of data. The number you are interested in is the 4k WRITE.It needs to be over an approximate minimum of 0.500Mb/Sec.for O.K.performance. Any number over 1.00Mb/Sec. will run great. (As a comparison, the hard drive in this computer I'm using tests out at 1.36Mb/Sec.)
The high 4k rate is what is needed for a consistent data exchange back and forth when the tablet is
running.
You need to test your cards and find one that can move your data at the highest speed, otherwise you have a big "bottleneck" in the data stream. The operator (you) expect something to happen as soon as you touch the screen and input something. If there is a slow write to the disk,it has to complete before the next actions can proceed.Add all these "slow" writes together for each operation and everything slows down to a crawl (or a FC or a crash).
The Sandisk C2 and C4 cards are recommended because they "usually" test out in the high range. However, they too vary so they need to be tested too.The Sandisk cards just have better chance of being "good".
Hope this helps, test your cards FIRST.

Hi,

I wanted to follow these instructions from my previously in-use SD card. So I took old card and formatted using Partition editor..Now I have a primary boot partition of size 117Mb (formatted) and I resized the rest 7.1Gb (formatted with FAT32). Now where do I point WinImage and where do I write+copy the images

Regards,

Rahul.

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

Hi,

I had rooted my nook color with CM7 and apart from one app, everything elese had been fine.

Now I restored the nook color to stock (updated to 1.4.1) and I tried this instructions to run CM7 from SD card.
But when I put the nook on, there is a endless repeat of the boot animation. Any ideas what may be the issue here?

Another question. When the rooting is done, the nook color put itself off. Do I have to put it on again, or does it put itself on?

Thanks for your help!

I'm actually not sure. 1.4.1 is a little iffy with running from the SD. Try formatting your card once more and trying again. When the scrolling text is done, yes, it is supposed to turn off. I have only done this with a stock unrooted nook, so I don't know what effect rooting has, but I'm almost positive it has no effect.

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

I followed these instructions exactly, and it worked perfectly. However, for some reason, Android Market apps won't download. I go to the app, press download, and the "downloading" loading bar just keeps going indefinitely. Any idea why this is happening?
