[HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No root!)

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

Is there a way to dual boot this so that you have the option on selecting which OS to choose from the beginning?

Yes. Hold down the "n" button when powering on and you'll be presented with a menu. The top line let's you choose between SD or eMMC. The "n" button changes this value. the volume +/- moves the cursor up or down. I think SD is the default. Choose eMMC on the top line, move down a few lines to the Boot now line and press "n". Should boot to Nook stock.

There are no doubt other ways of doing this, but this comes "standard" with CM7.

Re: [HOW-TO][WINDOWS] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to foll

You just have to put the actual SD Card into your computer and put your file on there. Re-insert the SD Card and then boot up your nook and it will flash automatically. You won't need to get into recovery mode.

For the love of all things holy and good in this world, may I retain my sanity lest I freak the heck out and toss this thing like a frisbee into the woods far out back of my house.

I've been running 7.0.3 for a long time from the SD card. I decided I want 7.1.0, so I read every post I could find on it, and did exactly as I found. Put the update file on the boot partition, stuck the card back in the NC, rebooted. Boots back into 7.0.3 every single time. I tried every conceivable variation you all have recommended, but I still can't get this thing to accept the update and install it. Perhaps it is because I have the dual-boot method installed on the card, and the install isn't catching?

The whole "hold down the buttons until you see 'Loading...'" thing ain't working. Will someone please spell it out perhaps slower, or more detailed?

If you only knew what I actually do for a living, you'd be laughing and I'd be out of a job.

This is a known problem. You cannot update from 7.0.3 if you used the 1.3 installer image. Do a titanium backup, put it on the computer, format your card, make a fresh install of 7.1, then restore everything with titanium.

Ah! I had not read that little tidbit of wisdom before, or maybe I did but it didn't register. Thanks, koopakid. I appreciate it. I shan't have to throw my NC now.

I have already rooted using instructions from Nookdev. Do I have to restore back to stock before installing CM7 with these instructions?

This is an SD install. This does not effect the internal memory in any way.

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

I'm having moderate success with this. Android (RC) comes up fine and connects to wifi. The problems start when I put the SD card back into my windows 7 machine to copy over gapps. Windows wants to format my drive and several versions of format managers don't recognize it. Funnily enough, cm7 does from the nook itself. I've formatted the card from the stock nook firmware and tried again several times with several versions of cm7. Any suggestions would be most helpfull!

Thanks
Stuart

I've been playing with rooting for several months, but wanted to make a dual boot SD card for a friend. Yours were by far the quickest, easiest to follow, and clearest instructions I've seen. Thanks!

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

Many thanks to kcls for compiling this instructions into a concise simple to follow format. I had the whole thing done in less than 15 mins after having read the instructions post twice and this entire thread once.

I had tried CM7 quite a while back and never could seem to get it all installed and working quite right. After putting a LOT of time into it I ended up just rooting the nook and using it like that. Not sure if it was the card I was using or if it was user error but quite ashamedly as an IT professional I had admitted defeat with CM7.

CM7 is rocking now! Wow. After having used the NC rooted for 4-5 months having the soft buttons and home screens that do portrait or landscape orientation I am throughly impressed with CM7. I'm running 7.1 RC on a Sandisk 8GB class 2 card.

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

First, you will want to get everything you need for CM7. You will need:

1. The image. This is what you will be writing to the SD Card, so the Nook can recognize it to boot off of. You can download the image HERE.

Anyone know where else to get this file, it says that the page doesn't exist.

Re: [HOW-TO] Download, Run CM7 off SD Card (Easy to follow! No ro

I think i am doing something wrong, every time I try and follow the directions it formats my SD card to 117mb or so with 115 available. This does not allow me to drop my cm7 folder into that partition. BTW im using a 16Gb SD and when i open it up in disk manager it shows 14Gb unallocated. Any help please,

Thank You
Craig

Not sure what is going on as my setup was quite similar to yours and everything worked. My suggestion would be to use sdformatter to get the full 16gb back on the card and try again.

Still can't get to the file:

Is that the official link, koopakid? Thanks for posting it up, I've been busy lately. I'll try and find a more permanent link after school today.
