How to find out the speed of the network you're connected to?

On my Samsung S6 edge+ that I just sold, it used to tell me I am connected to LTE or 3G, what's funny is on LTE, it only gave me 2 bars, then I cam to know about how sucky Samsung Phones' radio signal is.....

next, I bought an iPhone 6S 128GB, that gave me 3 bars on LTE which is one bar more than the Samsung gave me, maybe it's not a fair comparison because maybe iOS and Android calculate the signal strength in different ways but just saying.

Now, I got this Nexus 6P and it always shows me full 5 bars, doesn't say LTE or 3G next to it. I have a strong feeling that it is only 3G because I know the 3G signal in my house is much stronger but how do I actually check? why doesn't it display the speed of the connected network like all other phones?

I would never rely on bars since each phone can calculate them differently. Usually checking the actual -dBm signal is a better indication.

Next to the signal bar do you not see what data connection is active (like LTE in mine below)?

on the top left there are no icons for me, it's blank, I only see the battery percentage on the top right, the signal strength in bars (5 bars), and the WIFI signal

how did you get yours to show the actual dB and to show if it's LTE or 4G or 3G?

It shows up automatically for me. It says LTE, 3G or 1x if there is service.

When on WiFi it won't show the cell connectivity. That disappears. Turn WiFi off and you will then see the connectivity next to the cell bars.

If you go to about phone, status and then SIM status, you should see your signal in dBm.

Also, you can create your own widget with Zooper showing some network information. These are some of the available fields.
