Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie. I went to settings>applications>running services..........here's where I get in trouble.
I don't really understand all of the mumbo jumbo that's listed but there is a running clock for the items listed.
Are these apps I want to stop.

Example
ObexService 51:04
GTalkService 51:11
SyncService 51:36

Thanks again--Jeff

No, keep those services running as they are a part of the OS. If you want to see currently running apps, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications. From there, press the Menu button and select 'Filter'. The filter you are looking for is 'Running'.

With that said, Android is very efficient with closing apps automatically and many folks (including myself) don't recommend closing apps manually from there.

There is a good free app called SystemPanel. See if that helps you. But Ray is right - you don't want to be randomly closing processes until you know what they do.

Jeff just trust the Android system will only run whats needed and it will manage your system just fine. Just sit back and enjoy the ride ;)

System panel is a very good app like said ^ and its free.

The only app you have to worry about is the HTC Calendar app and Flickr Sync. Those are two notorious battery eaters (keeping the phone "awake"), but other than that you should be alright.
