How to get Android lock screen media buttons to work

I recently bought a Galaxy S9+, I can't get the lock screen media controls to work.

I can see Play, Fast Forward and Rewind but tapping them does nothing. I have tried several apps such as BeyondPod, N7 Player, and iHeartRadio.

I have to unlock my phone every time I want to pause, play or fast forward any media on any app. How can I get the lock screen media controls to work??

So you van actually see the back, play and forward button but you cant press it? And you are listening via headphones?
