how to get calls to use ring tone and texts silent

Go to menu>settings>sound and under ringtones and notifications, you can set whatever you'd like as your ring and text notification.

I think I know what the OP is trying to convey, as I too sometimes will set a ringtone separately for "email" and a different one for "text message" but the same tone ends up playing for both notifications.

Ya, I haven't completely solved this either. It seems that certain Apps (within the app) will let you set a specific notification sound and others just fall under the 'default' notification sound that was set in general settings. For example, Under general settings > sound > notifications, I have ringtone set as "Fairydust". In my Specific texting app; Textra I have set Pure Bell as the tone, but when I get a text message from someone it rings as "Fairydust that is set in the general notifications setting. So now when I hear it, I think I received a text, but it was actually an email! I have different ones set for Gmail and Cox Email (I keep them separate on my phone) and those do play the different tones.

So unfortunately, I think the Tone set under the General settings overrides some, but not all others....at least this is what I am finding to be the case on my phone.

If you are using the stock messaging app:

Open the messaging app as though you are going to send a text > tap the 3 vertical dots in the upper right corner > tap Settings > scroll down the list to "Notifications" > tap the slider bar in the upper right corner to select "On" > tap "Notification Sound" > select your desired sound > tap "Done" at the bottom of the page once you have selected your sound. If you don't select "Done", the sound won't be saved.

Thank you for your input! I actually don't use the the stock app, but Textra works the same way, and I do have the tone set up exactly as you have described and Saved (Done)
