how to get on new rom and switch off old one

hey i am running eclipse 2.1 and im ready for a upgrade to the next best rom or eclipse the newest one.. im running 902 so how do i get to the new one if i still have eclipse on my phone please help trying to get something new thanks

backup apps with titanium or something like that
download rom
put rom on sd card
boot into recovery
preform backup (nandroid preferably)
wipe, wipe,wipe,wipe wipe all data
flash rom per developers instructions
restore apps from titanium

then, hate rom
find new rom
wash rinse repeat

or love rom and live happy

i have 2.1 on 992 though and i wanted to upgrade to eclipse 3.0 on 905 are those the steps i wold have to do to get to 905 radio though?
