How to get rid of bubble and up-arrow in Messages

With the last upgrade I started getting an unwanted bubble and up-arrow in Messages.
How do I make them go away?

No can do (unless you switch to a different messaging app). It's now a part of the app itself (new message shortcut, but the arrow should only show up if you're scrolling down your message list and are not at the top).
