How to get rid of reminders to "follow up" on already sent messages?

Not "they sent a message to me that I haven't replied to" that's not a bad thing in my case.

I mean, when I've sent a message and that person doesn't reply, now and again, I get a reminder, with the same sound as a "message received" that says "Sent 2 days ago, follow up?"

The answer is no. I don't want to follow up. If they're legitimately busy or they lost their phone / it broke, they'll be mad at me if they see I was pestering them. If they're just not interested in being friends for some reason, messaging them over and over again would be bullying / stalking, then I'd be an enemy, rather than just not a friend.

So, how do I get rid of these reminders? If I can only turn off both types together (the reminder to reply to an unread message) so be it.

I'm assuming this is coming from the Google Messages app? If so, I think the only way to get rid of those is to turn off AI features on it.

Or is it Gmail you're talking about? In the Gmail app, go to its settings, then your Gmail account, and scroll down to Nudges. Turn off the "Suggest emails to follow up on" checkbox.
