How to go from 2.2 OTA to a custom ROM?

I would like to go to a blurless ROM preferably just to see if there's any difference. Any instructions on how to do this?

first question is are you rooted and are you deodexed? if not, that needs to be done first.

Root and then get things like rom manager and bootstrapper.

Green, the first thing to do is root your phone. And then get Koush's bootstrap recovery.

You should first get comfortable with using adb through the sdk, and also what the bootstrap recovery does for you (it puts ClockWorkMod's recovery on your phone).

Once you understand what these things do you should also make sure to have your computer ready for doing an SBF to your phone. This is in the event that you get stuck in a bootloop or you just totally hose your phone.

Finally, just go for it. There are a lot of ROMs out there that will give you all types of in betweens from no blur at all whatsoever (Fission) to something that is totally blurry like just an early leak (TBH's 2.2.1), and things in between (Apex or Rubix).

I've loaded 4 ROMs in the last 4 days and learned something everytime.
