How to Group Text?

I don't know about AT&T, but Verizon released an Android app a while back called VZMessages that works just fine for group messaging iphone style. And the stock Messages app on my new(er) Rezound does it.

Apparently, these apps work by simply converting your text message to an MMS message. It seems that the MMS protocol supports sending a complete recipient list along with the message itself. So, any MMS client can do group messaging - if it's just programmed with that much smarts.

I have not looked at the new Verizon app. However GoSMS does support this function. I use it all the time to participate in group text conversations with friends on iphones.

Good that GoSMS finally added that functionaliy.

FWIW, the stock Messages app on the Rezound supports it, too. I ditched my TB for a Rezound almost 2 weeks ago (when I found out the Rezound is world capable). I have found it to be a very worthy upgrade from the TB. And available for pretty cheap, used, nowadays.

Do tell... I would pick up a rezound cheap. Where from?

I got mine via Craigslist. I just watched CL for about a week before I found the right phone at the right price.

what kind of prices were you seeing? I might just go this route to keep unlimited data.

They're commonly in the $300-350 range. But, with a little patience, I paid $250, for a phone that is literally like new, with original box, unused Beats headset, an extra screen protector, and a case/holster combo.

You robbed him, good work!

We met in the parking lot outside his office. While I was there, another guy showed up to sell him an iPhone 4s. So, obviously, this guy wasn't too smart. ;)

I know the OP found a solution but wanted to post this quick tip for others as I just recently went through this same situation as well. Yes GoSMS now has the capability BUT you have to enable a certain option for it to work. It is not enabled by default. In GoSMS, goto Settings/Advanced/Send Settings and check MMS Group Chat.

Ok the problem I have is that I used Go SMS to send messages to a group of people (29) throughout one evening, numerous messages at times. Never had a problem until about three weeks ago. Now it freezes the phone and will not send all the messages. Now I do not want to have all of us talking to each other at once but the ability to forward messages to all of them at one time. I used Handcent but it quit working so I switched to Go SMS. Any help out there?

I have had problems that sound similar to that. Make sure your stored SMS messages aren't filling up your phone's storage. Simplest would be to just go through and delete all the threads in whatever SMS app you are using. I wouldn't be surprised if, every time you send a group message to 29 people, it stores 29 copies of the message.

More than likely this would work however I root the phone constantly and have had absolutely no messages prior to the start of the evening's text fest. About right now the only option I can think of is splitting the group into two separate groups of 10 and one of 9. I cannot figure out why it has changed as I have never had this problem before.

Is there any similar app for AT&T users? I have the same exact complaints as you, StuartV, but on my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. I can't believe this issue still hasn't been resolved... So disappointed with Android right now :(

I'm in the same boat. AT&T user who just picked up a Galaxy SIII. I'm coming off an iPhone 3G & 4 that I've used the past 4 years. I like the GS3 a lot but a few little issues like this that shouldn't be so is ticking me off.

I found a solution that works well if you're an AT&T user. They have a Messages app that handles visual voice mail as well as messaging. The messaging allows group messaging much like I had on my iPhone. Things are going great now.

Well my solution only partly works. I can get in on group messaging when someone else sends it but whenever I try to send a group text with "reply all" enabled, the message will not go through. Back to looking for viable options.

FYI, this is a Verizon HTC Thunderbolt forum... not the GS3.

Yessir, I noticed that after I posted up. I found this thread from a general search. New to the forum and haven't figured out how to only search a particular sub-forum yet.

What app do you use for group texting? That's about the only thing I haven't been able to get working.

Just asked a guy at the Verizon store and he told me to try out Group Me. I shall let you all know how it works in a few days.
