how to i quickly upload photos and videos from my samsung s4 to my google drive account?

i have over 900 files (mostly pictures and some videos) and everything i have done to date has taken an unbearable period of time. I have tried to upload them 1 at a time and in a group of 300 but i have still made no real progress.

Welcome to Android Central! Upload speeds are almost always slower (usually by a lot) compared to download speeds. I would connect the phone to your computer via USB and use Windows Explorer to copy the photos from the phone (the camera directory is /DCIM/Camera) to your computer hard drive. Then install the Google Photos Uploader (https://photos.google.com/apps) on the computer, select the folder where all of the photos are, and let your computer upload the photos.

Back on your phone, you should consider deleting all of those photos, because if you have Auto Backup turned on, then they will eventually all upload (along with the copies you just transferred to the computer), which means you'll have duplicates in your Google Photos cloud. Then keep Auto Backup on for here on, so that any picture you take gets automatically backed up (you can opt for it to backup on wi-fi only, or on wi-fi/mobile data).
