[How-To] Install aospCMod7 2.3.4 (With Downloads of everything)

Re: [How-To] Easily install aospCM7 for the first timer

Click on market. You will be able to clear data from there.

Re: [How-To] Easily install aospCM7 for the first timer

Didn't work, but I keep getting a Google Talk authentication error if that helps at all.

Re: [How-To] Easily install aospCM7 for the first timer

I'm also getting that.

I got it to work.

This is what I did.

Go to settings, applications, manage applications, and go the all tab, find Google Services Framework. Force stop and clear data.

Go back to the all apps list, and find market and clear cache.

Then reboot.

Good to know, I see how that would work. I feel like i didnt factor into account that the rom might latch onto some stuff from my phone, so I posted a new method of flashing this ROM that I suggest you use to replace the nandroid backup you have now.

but I will add this info to the original post soon for anyone else whos having that problem on my nandroid backup

Re: [How-To] Install aospCMod7 with the least trouble. UPDATED

tried the updated way. flash image not found. same problem I have always had with terminal emulator.

Re: [How-To] Install aospCMod7 with the least trouble. UPDATED

ok, restored your first aosp. used terminal emulator in that rom to flash 3.1 recovery. it worked! completely fresh install now. something must have been screwed up with my original stock that i couldn't use Term Emulator to flash

Re: [How-To] Install aospCMod7 with the least trouble. UPDATED

Is there any reason to use the updated tutorial if I already used the original if I'm no longer getting error messages? Like is it a newer version or will it run better?

if you have cleared the data from the market and you dont get any errors, then no, your fine.

Is there a reason to clear Google Services Framework Data? It seems clearing cache on Market alone, then reboot, fixes the problem. I had the problem occur again today though. And it always boils around Google Talk trying to Authenticate. The program never signs in but the password is correct, and telling "Talk" to sign out/disconnect or whatever makes the program end. But after rebooting the problem tends to come back. Has anyone managed to permanently eliminate this problem? Delete Talk.apk maybe?? hehehehehehehe... Btw, my Google Talk account works, I use the same account on my Android 3 Tablet.

Also, second question not as related. Does ClockworkMod clear the "partitions" in question before loading the ROM? Should I be worried about residual files from my stock rom? Should I "cat /dev/zero > /dev/mtd(?)"

Final Question... Virgin Mobile comes with a few of its own apps (which all suck, but I do have them all if someone needs them). One of them when is kinda needed to use their service is "SelfServiceAssistant_1.0.25.apk". It is the program installed in /system/app on the stock rom that adds the "Activate" button in programs. Its the program that provisions the phone to their service when you need to activate, change phone number, etc. In fact it installed without incident, but SSA crashes when the phone boots up and it can't be ran either. I was wondering if there is a missing kernel option, Android extension, etc that could cause this kind of issue. I would be willing to help with debugging this problem. I will provide a copy of SelfServiceAssistant_1.0.25.apk for anyone who wishes to look into the issue. For now, I'm keeping a copy of my Froyo 2.2.1 stock rom for activation reasons plus warranty... I backed up my factory recovery program as well. I figure, I'll slip it back on there with my stock rom and unroot that before I send my phone for warranty, if needed.

Alternative to the question above... How do you enter "Programming Mode"??? I've changed many many settings in many different phones, but in the past its always been a hidden menu accessed by some sequence on the dialer followed by "END" or the non-existent Option "0" on the settings menu, etc. Usually proceeded with a password prompt that is almost always "000000". Is there such a screen in Android OS, Phone BIOS Level, or a "program.apk", etc to access those settings... Or do I need to dig up a "Samsung Studio" equivalent for LG? Although, I really did like Samsung Studio. I managed to make a few phones USB Tether that the carrier set to not allow tether... That was fun. :) I wonder if that program still works for Android Samsung Intercept, etc.

Now that the questions are over, I must admit, I'm a little new to this. However, the concept of flashing a device isn't anything new to me... I've used PROM Programmers, JTAG's, TFTP flash methods (used by VoIP devices, etc). Even bricked a device or two and was able to revive it again using TFTP (always fun lying to the ARP cache to make a computer believe a certain MAC is assigned to a specific IP since the bricked device isn't smart enough to at least DHCP (stupid engineers, lol)).

Re: [How-To] Install aospCMod7 2.3.4 (With Downloads of everythi

watskyhotsky, thanks for the short tutorial, but I did manage to find a ClockworkMod "formatted" backup of a newer snapshot then what you linked here. I went from ROM Manager (install ClockworkMod which worked btw), then reboot to ClockworkMod, Backup Stock OS, then Flash aospCMod7, then reboot into aospCMod7. Worked great! So I ended up skipping a few steps that way... Once I saw the ClockworkMod recovery utility come up, I figured at that point there would be little I could do to brick the device, since I can move the memory card between PC and phone to restore whatever I want. At worst, I'd restore stock OS.

Although I never got around to ADPing flash_image to my phone while in the stock OS because ClockworkMod install worked from ROM Manager, why can't you "cat imagefile.img > /dev/mtd(?)". I'd figure everyone has "cat" and installing flash_image just seems like another pain...

I am VERY impressed with aospCMod7. The battery usage is MUCH better then Froyo 2.2.1, although I blame Virgin Mobile's Froyo because of its bloatedness of useless Virgin Mobile apps. :)

I was very concerned about using ROM Manager for flashing ROMS from inside the OS to the flash device. I'm glad I didn't try that before reading this little tutorial. I always preferred the "DOS" method of flashing motherboards, etc instead of using Windows utilities that could hang during flash.

For everyone else, ClockworkMod is the way to go. Very direct, low-level operation and most likely NOT to have an issue. You all can argue with him about the best method to do this, but his method does have some merit. Even when they do fix ROM Manager, I will still flash from ClockworkMod. To many bad experiences with attempting flashes to motherboards in windows to KNOW that I should be OUT of the OS when flashing (Yeah, I've bricked one or two of them too, thank you microscrap!). Not that I don't have any trust in linux, I use linux on my desktops, but flashing from inside a multitasking OS just makes me cringe...

Re: [How-To] Install aospCMod7 2.3.4 (With Downloads of everythi

I've gotten to the part where I need to use the terminal on the phone, and every time I type in flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img my phone just goes to another line for input. I was wondering if anyone could help?

Nevermind. Got past it. xD

Just wondering since everything seems to be working fine is there any chance of this just one day randomly bricking and ****ing me up? Or maybe I should say what are the chances?

I dont get what everyone's obsessions with aosp is, just because its so far a half ass attempt at gb everybody wants it. Bumblebee harmonia, and reborn are way better, I use reborn, and It came with everything aosp does, even the power controls in the status bar.The only thing. Missing is the battery graph, but its a fair tradeoff. I

"Half ass attempt?" Seriously? The only things that aren't working in the current version of this ROM are camera autofocus and bluetooth headsets. Yes, those are two fairly important things, but not enough to call the ROM "half ass." Of all the ROMs I've tried, this one has the most features and has, by far, the best battery life. I have made it through two days with this ROM, and it's absolutely stable. I've had NO reboots or freezes.

Thanks for the guide! I'm new to androids and this worked perfectly for me.

Same happened here, but it worked fine for me. It should be noted in the how-to that sometimes at that step, it flashes w/o any output or errors.

Remount is a command included in the rom or possibly the kernel not certain which; it's not included in the stock roms so it won't work if you are on stock. Instead you need to kill and start the adb server and it should remount it properly for you.

adb kill-server
adb start-server

It's a common issue; course on the plus side most custom roms push the remount command to your phone so you can use remount in the future.
