How to install/flash a kernel?

How do I install or flash a kernel? I want to install on my SF the fix for the music player popup. Is it the same way that I use to load a new rom via Odin?

Certain files are flashed through Odin, others are flashed through Clockwork Recovery. To flash a kernel you need to flash CWM through Odin and then reboot into it while having the file for the kernel of your choice on your SD card. If you do not have a file already you may download ROM Manager from the market but that is a different approach. Let me know which way you need to go.

once i flash it how do i know it stuck even after the reboot is there something that i need to llok for on the about phone and whats better voodoo or non voo

I have SetCPU as an app, and under the information tab, it shows the kernel. I went from stupidfast 1.54 to and's 12/30 and it reflects it in that section.
