How to keep the screen off when connected to car stereo?

Bought a new vehicle (Dodge Durango) that has the Uconnect infotainment system in it (it does not have Android Auto). Smooth pairing and operation with my phone except when it comes to making/receiving phone calls. I can make and answer calls without touching my phone, but this still causes the screen on my phone to turn on. This is a pretty big nuisance at night because I still keep my phone mounted on the dash, so it's basically at eye level and distracting to have it light up when making/receiving a call. Any way to prevent the screen from coming on when it's connected to my vehicle?

Unfortunately not. Since you're just routing call and media audio via Bluetooth (it's not a fully integrated system like Android Auto is), the phone is set to do that to avoid accidental calls (or at least for the user to notice that a call has been initiated). You could use Bixby routines or an automation app to make it so that when the phone detects your car's BT connection it automatically lowers brightness to the minimum setting, but that's about it. You MIGHT be able to dig deeper and be able to keep the screen off (not sure if at all possible) with a more powerful automation app like Tasker, but I'm pretty certain something like that would require root access.

Kinda figured it would take an additional app. I've given Tasker a look in the past but it seems to require some "advanced" skill to use it properly. Maybe IFTTT will work for it, though I haven't had a need to use that one for like 2 years. Guess I'll give it or Tasker another try. Thanks.

SpookDroid is right, you can enable Bixby routines and then use the Driving routine which is already prepared for you. Go into editing it, remove what you think you don't need, but add the "Night mode on" switch found on Display category of routines. Save the routine and leave Bixby routines On. See what happens. When phone connects to your car's bluetooth (which you already defined in the driving routine in the first step), the routine will start automatically and switch your phone to Night mode between other things. If you need more help just ask.
