phone flashes white screen to the left sometimes when on phone

it just did it when I went onto Facebook and enable location but I couldn't screen record it in time

The full height of the screen just on the border ? Flicker of less than a second constantly? Any shape?
I honestly don't think anyone can solve that here.
A reputable repair shop should offer a free suggestion as to what it is. It would be down to you to trust them if they offer to repair if they say it's hardware, though I have had a couple of good experiences in the past.

i don't know what it is i just flicks white on the screen in a square shape for a few seconds constantly from the left hand side

how can i find out if i have

found them think they are default settings

Gesture Shortcuts under Additional Settings... check each is turned off.
Floating Windows - Sidebar... see the changing graphic before selecting if it may look like it.
The Side Bar's vertical white line, you may know, if on swipes in to reveal 5 app icons by default - so again it probably isn't that.

I'm still unclear from your responses if something worked or didn't work.
