How to keep wifi hotspot alive when phone is locked?

I searched the forum and due to my inability I cannot find the answer. If I use wireless hotspot, how do I keep it alive even when the phone is locked?

Check your juice defender settings, it may be shutting down your 3g or wifi upon screen timeout.

from the home Screen, hit Menu key>Settings>wireless and networks>Wifi settings> in this screen hit the Menu key click advanced>Wifi Sleep policy, and select Never

With EVO 4G my hotspot cuts out when I use the phone. I tried your suggested settings but didn't solve the problem. Any suggestions?

i dont have a EVO but doesnt it have a 4G setting

Settings>wireless & Networks>4g Settings

and i have never set up the wireless hotspot on my phone so i dont know the settings, sorry
