[How To][Links] Themes, ROMs, Kernels, Boot Animations: 9-16-11

Thanks ill give it a go No go on it and dont want to mess around with other method. thanks for trying. still get the purple honeycomb esc type things. but it pushed something so i dont know what I did lol

My guess is it copied the bootanimation.zip file to a folder that the kernel does not look at. You should be fine. Method B really is a solid way to copy boot animations from the sdcard to the correct folder. When you are comfortable give it a go.

I was on nitrocomb 3.1.1 and I flashed va green. Now I still have the nitrocomb keyboard

Nitrocomb does more and deeper theming than va green. You will need to wipe cache and dalvik and flash va green again. If that doesn't do it you will need to wipe cache and dalvik, flash sc 2.9.2v, reboot, boot back to cwm, wipe cache and dalvik, flash va green, then reboot.

Thanks.. I flashed sc 2.9.2 and honeycomb 3.1.1 today as well. Still nothing. my phone will vibrate on keypress for the softkeys and all other navigation. It only doesn't work for the keyboard. hmmm....

Tried yet again. Reflashed base rom, wiped cache, d cache, rebooted. flashed honeycomb 3.1.1 still my phone wont vibe on keypress with the keyboard.

Needs some memory (mine) help. One of the many Roms/themes I've flashed lately had the shutdown boot that I liked the most but I can't remember which one and can't find it listed anywhere. Its the one that just shuts the screen down (like the old TVs) to the single horizontal line across the screen then gone......don't even know the name so that probably doesn't help. Anyone?

The theme you are referring to is Steel Blue v1.5.

As far as work.. No details of any issues.

Different: It has been developed with lower voltages than jt1134's kernels. It is also in a non-voodoo flavor. Be aware you have to have touchwiz as a launcher for it to work properly.

boo to touchwiz! thanks for the heads up on that! I love launcherPro will there be low voltage for LP?

I know that Adrynalyne was dialogging with jt1134 regarding kernels last night. I would guess that a basic non-voodoo, undervolted kernel (that does not require specific launchers) is in the works somewhere.. I would guess it (or more) will show in the next day or two.

Thats awesome cause im sick of this crappy battery life. I just dont know how to replace the kernel once it happens hope someone is there to assist. or walkthrough.

It is a simple procedure.. Download to your computer - copy to your sdcard.. Boot into CWM Red.. flash the zip on sdcard.. That is it..

I'm sure someone will be around when it breaks.

so that is the only thing u need to change?? dont need to do anything else with it? figured would be more complex. and it will work with 2.9.2? Im still getting used to this. phone would be perfect right now if the battery lasted for more than 4 hrs without a charge. do i loose anything when i do it or have to do the cache wipes and what not? or make a big backup?? thanks for help JaeKar

No changes are required for a non-voodoo kernel flash. My experience of the past use of; basic/non specific non-voodoo based kernels, flash them and you are good.. The developer will usually specify what is required if anything at the time of the release.

There is no loss of data with a kernel flash.

I notice when I change themes, there are still elements from previous themes on my new one. I clear the cache and dalvik before each install. I've also tried reinstalling. Any way to fix this?

You can reflash the theme you are wanting to employ again if that does not work you may have to reflash your base ROM before you apply the theme you want. Some themes can be persistent.
