How to make Android like a BlackBerry?

Hey everyone,

So I am a long time BlackBerry user however the lack of apps (yes I am aware of sideloading but no, it is not a feasible option) finally pushed me to use a Nexus 5 running Android 6.0 (Completely stock). While I was very happy finally having access to all the apps, the lack of proper notifications actually pushed me back to my BlackBerry Classic. Here is some background info on my situation.

  • The pulldown notifications I found was too cluttered. ie I do not want to see how many apps were updated from Google PlayStore, weather for tomorrow etc.
  • The fact I had to go into each of my apps (messenger, email inbox, phone icon) to see if I had any new messages was tedious and I actually ended up missing a lot of my messages and calls
  • I could not set different notifications for things like text messages and emails (ie. 1 short vibration for texts with green LED, 2 long vibrations for emails)

However with that being said I know how customizable Android is and I know many of the problems I listed above are not shortfalls of Android, but in fact my own lack of knowledge with this OS. So if any previous BlackBerry users or anyone else can shed some light as to what I should do like downloading certain launchers etc. to make it more like a BlackBerry that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I was just going to post the SAME thing! This is what I do on my Nexus 6P. I have also owned and loved a BlackBerry Priv which I have since passed on to my father. (I had to pry the Q10 from his hands first, lol) The jury is still out with him, as he has little or no experience with Android, and has been a BB user for many years.

If you long-press the notification, it'll change from white to dark, and list the app generating the notification. Clicking on the gear icon will bring you into that app's notification control window. From there, you'll have a lot of granular controls for notifications. If you do that for the weather card (which comes form Google Now, a function inside the 'Google App'):

I know this is random, but even downloading BB 10 wallpapers (the Zedge ringtone/wallpaper app should have them) will probably give your phone more of a BlackBerry edge to it. Zedge also has BB ringtones and notification sounds, which were a pleasure to listen to (I'm weird LOOL).

Oh wow, it plays BlackBerry tones? Cool. I'll have to check that out.

Thank you. I didn't know this.

I was thinking when I saw this post "BlackBerry just released an android phone" and I saw that other people were already posting apps from that phone.
