How to make my phone give notifications on email? Not working

Hello guys I'm new to the Android world so please bare with me.
I am coming from an iPhone 6 so things are a little different.
How do I make my new galaxy s6 edge beep when I get an email?
I noticed that my phone doesn't even receive the emails unless I click on the little envelope.
It is critical for me to have my phone beep or give me some kind of notification when an email is received.
I went into my settings where my email accounts are and in email notifications I have all my accounts as ON.
I noticed that MASTER SYNC on all my accounts is disabled I don't know if that would cause an issue.
I don't get it.

Basically what I want is every time someone sends me an email I want my phone to automatically receive the email and beep to tell me I have it.

edit: i was able to enable master sync.
emails still not coming in or beeping though

double edit: i fixed it
i had to go into every account i had and set the sync interval to automatic

there has to be a way to set this globally?
