I moved from a Palm Treo Pro which had a physical switch which turned all sound off on the device. I work in areas where I can not have any sound and do not know how to easily accomplish this with the Nexus 4. I put it in silent mode and then hear some notification from some app go off. I then used a game and it beeped when I made some selection on the menu. The phone was still set to silent mode. Does anyone have any idea how to make it completely silent? Thanks.

It shouldn't make any noise in silent mode, but if it is then you'll have to dig in to the settings for your games and notifications to make sure they're not somehow overriding the silence setting.

There's 2 volumes you have to turn off. One for the phone ringer and the other for media. You'll see them when you look in the volume settings. Annoying, I know.

Is it possible to switch to silent on a schedule but ring if someone calls you multiple times in a row?

Hold the lock button. A menu should pop up and select vibrate or silent.

The notifications, media and alarm volume is seperate. I'm pretty sure there are probably hundred of apps in the market that will let you change all sliders at once with one tap

I use RealSilent in the app store. Having come from iOS I was used to a real silence mode and RealSilent automatically silences all volumes when you lower the volume with the hardware buttons.
