any ideas? this is bugging me :'(

You have to set the setting for each app thru the individual apps settings, when the app is opened, hit the menu button you should get a app specific menu with a settings option for that particular app

For Instagram, tap the 3 vertical square dot in top right corner, then go to EDIT PROFILE, at the bottom you'll see MANAGE SETTINGS, click where it says PUSH NOTIFICATIONS, it doesn't have an option for vibrate, but just to receive the notification.

For Facebook, open the FB app, hit the menu key on the phone and you'll see your settings options, with the vibrate option.

Emails are the same as FB, open up your email app, hit the menu key on the phone and select settings.

I am using the HTC EVO and was receiving vibrate notifications for my gmail when I was in vibrate mode, but after doing a hard (factory) reset I'm no longer getting the vibrate notification. The icon still appears and the LED flashes, but there isn't a vibrate that accompanies it. I tried going through the gmail preferences/settings on my phone but was not able to find this option. Obviously it's possible to do this because it worked yesterday. Could you help with this specific program?

Are you using the "Mail" app or the "Gmail" app? I use the "Mail" app and it has notification vibrate in the settings.

For Gmail app click the menu button (4 lines on bottom), then click settings, then click on your email address and you get your notifications settings.
