Are you booted into Recovery (not Android)? When I try to run rage i get permission dennied.

and post the output.cd /sdcard/000root
ls -l

Type this in adb shell
and post the output.
Actually adb and screencast are all bundled into zvhroot.zip. You didn't need to download anything else (other than Java, if you didn't have that already)I was frustrated trying to get screencast to work, but it (sdk) just needed to be updated before it would work. Seems those crazy android folks updated the programs and files for some reason lol. Maybe add a mention in the directions about that. I just played around for a while till i figured out what the issue was getting screencast working.
I don't think you are actually booted into Recovery.I typed it and got this:
----rwxr-x system sdcard_rw 5392 2011-10-02 17:34 rage
The reason you are not meeting success is because ZVH / 2.3.3 are not rootable.I have tried rooting my phone with every method I have seen in these forums. Gingerbreak, z4, typing all the command lines, everything. I have everything I need downloaded and in the correct files. I get to the end of each process and nothing ever happens. I am running V2.3.3 I dont know if that is why I am having issues. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it I really want to root this phone. Thank you very much.
Your internal memory on your phone is likely defective. That is likely why you see the error. I've said that a couple of times now. You can format to your hearts desire and it won't make any difference. Replacing your phone would make a difference.searched on the internet for solution but nothing helped... Rooting went fine and I've tried formatting the sd card and clear cache and I also did a factory reset. It still says bad block and no space left. Is there a workaround? How can I update to ZVH? Thanks!
Thanks for the response. I'll install the screencast and continue with the rest of the steps.Your internal memory on your phone is likely defective. That is likely why you see the error. As to rooting ZVH, as I've mentioned to you before, you most likely can just continue with the instructions and ignore that error when you ran install-v9.sh. It appears your "bad block" is in a part of the recovery partition that isn't being used.
PLEASE REREAD Step 2 - Note #1. Then continue with the instructions as if you never got that error.
You mentioned you formatted the SDCARD, so you might need to perform Step #1 again.
You are IMO really close to rooting ZVH, but are making it more difficult for yourself by going on tangents when I'm telling you exactly what you need to do.
You can do every step except rooting ZVH (running rage) from the phone. My Optimus S does not communicate with any computers when attached via USB cable, it just charges. I'm currently using CM7 port (Drew Walton) and would like to try one of the official Gingerbread ROMs. My question is this: If I dropped all these files on my sdcard, can I use the same instructions to install V9 recovery, ZVH antenna etc., and root ZVH, without screwing up my phone. Seems like from the instructions that you need a computer to do adb shell, but as I stated earlier, my phone so some unknown reason can't and won't communicate with any PCs (Win7, WinXP, and Mac).
Thank you so much for all of your hard work.
See Step 5 - Note #1.I was running Reborn ROM(rooted) and I applied the update in the recovery and now my phone is constantly stuck on the Reborn ROM rebooting screen. How can I fix this?
If you can find an adb client that runs on your phone, then you can do it all on the phone. There might be one, I didn't research it. the rage exploit works through manipulating the adb server on the phone. That means after it runs, you need to reconnect to the adb server on the phone. Normally this is done by an adb client on the PC, but if you can find one that runs on the phone (again I didn't look at all) then you can root ZVH also using the method described here. Thanks sfhub for a quick reply. So should I just not bother since if I can't root my phone again after applying V9 recovery, I'll be stuck there, is that correct? Or could I still run rage if I have terminal emulator installed on my phone? Thanks.
