[How-to][NEW VERSION] Run Nookie Froyo off SD card

so what size card you guys are using? 8 or 16? i was planning on getting an 8GB card. you think that's enough? thx

I have installed the google apps through adb, but I have the problem of getting stuck at the welcome screen with the android. When I press the android it glows white but I can never get it to work. I noticed some other people had this problem but there was never a clear answer on how to fix this. Has anyone figured out how to get past this screen?

well re-installed the froyo image to my SD card, booted up, then tried copying just gmail, vending, marketupdater and youtube to the /system folder via adb to get around my setup wizard issue.. they show up but won't open. Just return me to the launcher. No idea how to get them working.

glad i never tried rooting my phone.. i'd have probably destroyed the damned thing LOL

The setup wizard not going past the 'touch the android' screen is a problem with the image (think it was from changing the market fingerprint before installing market). Preparing a new one right now. In the meantime, clean 0.5.8 image is back in OP . . .

You can post in this thread, and I or someone else will give you the best answers we can.

The 'n' button not working most definitely isn't normal. The setup wizard not running isn't a particularly encouraging sign either. I'd recommend starting fresh with the 0.5.9 image that's currently in the op.

The market fingerprint (that determines what apps you see) has been updated for that image too. If they still aren't showing after burning the new image to your SD, just clear the cache for the market (menu>settings>applications>all>market>clear cache from your homescreen), reboot, and check again.

No Joy! I've tried re-downloading everything and re installing. The Nookie-Froyo image looks like it goes on ok. I'm able to go in and set up my wireless.

But when I put the google apps on top, I'm stuck in setupwizard hell. It's been very frustrating for me.

See the post right above yours. A new image that won't have that problem is on its way . . . if you must use it right now, a working 0.5.8 is in the OP temporarily.

OP updated with a new image (0.5.9) that won't have the "touch the android to begin" error. Tested and working with Google Apps!!

You'll need to change the Market fingerprint manually now in order to see more market apps (sometime after installing Google apps). How-to is in the stickied Nookie Froyo tips thread.

If you have used adb before and have other files in your tools folder before extracting this gapps file there, do you need to clean those out?

I downloaded the (0.5.9) earlier today and just finished writing it, do I need to start all over?

You rock! Trying it now. Also donated, which I recommend everyone do. We need to support these guys!

What should my Device Manager look like in Windows after the Nook driver install? I'm using Windows 7 64-bit and I am receiving "error:Device not found" when attempting to run ADB while booted to Froyo from my micro USB. I have a mix of B&N eBook Disk USB drive items, WPD File System Device Driver items, and a Nook Color item w/o a driver.

Thanx,

when i add apps to the froyo SD card, will the apps be saved to the card so next time i boot from the card it will be like i last shut down in Froyo?

Unfortunately, yes. I tried to do too much with that image and borked the GApps install. This one will be stable though, promise.

Yep! In that way, it's just like running a ROM off of the internal memory.

If you're still having problems after running the driver auto-installer from the OP, first try rebooting your nook and your computer. If it's still giving you "device not found," check out this page which gives you the long way of doing it (but it's really not that long)

Once I complete the process, can I plug the card into another Nook or would I have to go through the gapps install again?

OK I seem to be the only one with this issue on a mac. I can't get this command to work to write to the sd card.

dd if=NameOfNookieFroYoImage of=/dev/disk# bs=1m

I just reads no such file or directory. Please help me.

This process in no way modifies the NC right? What I mean is, if I took out the micro sd card out of it, it would just boot back into plain vanilla NookColor 1.0.1? Sorry if this question has been answered, just haven't found it anywhere.

It's all on the card, so it would be exactly the same on another nook.

Yep.

Do I need to format the sd card before using the win32 Disk Imager to write the new image?

No, the program should do its thing without pre-formatting.

Are you replacing NameOfNookieFroYoImage with the actual filename of the image?
