[How-to][NEW VERSION] Run Nookie Froyo off SD card

I'm in the process of flashing my nc back to stock. I think i will try this until they come with a much more stable EMMC version where everything works like youtube, flash, etc...

I can't write image to SD Card

I have tried a number of times to write the nookie-froyo-SDIMAGE_2GB-0.6.7 to an SD card using win32diskimager. I have run diskimager as Administrator and not as administrator, no difference. The SD Card writer's activity led flashes like it is writing but after it completes there is nothing on the card. Suggestions please.

Got Froyo on the sd card and booted up just fine last night. Awesome! But I haven't been able to do the apps yet.

I followed the ADB tutorial that was posted but when I get to the adb.exe step in CMD it says that adb.exe is not a valid Win32 Application. Is there something I should check? Or should I try and start from scratch with the whole ADB process? Thanks!

ADB for Total Noobs?

Geez - not being a programmer at all, I usually enjoy a good challenge playing with my electronic toys. No problem rooting my NC. Was interested in trying out an SD card version of Froyo, but installing the Google apps/market are going to kill me!

I've got an iMac - may have to fire up my Windows XP machine (or parallels) and see if I can follow directions successfully. Gave up on my iMac when I couldn't figure out how to put the directory in the PATH - brings back dos memories!

Hi- getting a "failed to copy" due to a "read only file system" after I try to push the google apps via adb. Any help on fixing this?

Thank you.

Double Check

I just want to make sure that this is a temporary method. This only runs from the SD card and when you take the card out and reboot it runs just like when I bought it, right. I would like to experiment a little, but I'm not ready to root my NC yet.

I'm stumped (two days) at:
"error: device not found"

I've tried most of the solutions presented in this thread but NO joy. I have nookie installed on my 8gb SD card.

Help?

So, this might be an extremely rookie question, but how do I copy books to the Kindle or Nook app, while running Froyo from the SD card?

Not sure how to add e-books to the Nook or Kindle app. But I use an app called Aldiko (free on android market or Amazon market). It is a very good e-reader. I just download the .epub files from a torrent site. Then I use Browsix to transfer the file to my SD card. After they are on the SD card I use Aldiko to load and read them. Hope this helps.

I am really stuck on this. I can write the image to the SD card fine and then I don't know what to do. I keep getting the message that the SD card is damaged and it wants to reformat. What am I supposed to see once I write the image file to the SD card?

I have rooted several phones, so I am not sure why I am having such a problem with this. I have had to do a hard reset a few times today and am sitting on a fresh 1.1 install. I appreciate any help.

Read-only error after push loading googleapps

I'm stuck at "push." Here is the error message

c:\tools>adb push c:\tools\system system/
push: c:\tools\system/app/YouTube.apk -> system/app/YouTube.apk
failed to copy 'c:\tools\system/app/YouTube.apk' to 'system/app/YouTube.apk': Read-only file system

Not sure where to go from here. I've reburned the sd card so many times trying to get this right. I had a conflict during a previous attempt because I had tried to load through AC SWM as well as the cmd prompt method.

Any and all help welcome.

Thanks.

Totally having a hard time with this ADB stuff. I've put the tools folder in the c drive, and put the google apps in the tools folder.

I'm not good with cmd prompts and I've watched like every single video and read every thread. Ugh, I feel so dumb.

So please any help?

EDIT
Ok I got everything connected and recognized, but I'm having a hard time with the commands. I get the first one on and then I press ENTER and it won't let me write anything else or paste the next line.

What next?

EDIT 2
I'm not sure of the cmd syntax. I have everything in the right place but I keep getting a "not recognized as an internal or external command"

Having the same issue. Can anyone offer some insight? Thanks!

question re Auto nooter and Froyo

I rooted my BN Color using the auto rooter method have downloaded a buch of apps, but am concerned that with the new Update coming, I may loos all of them and run the risk of getting "bricked" and now I want to try Froyo on the SD card...

Do I have to revert to stock before I re-boot with Froyo, or will Froyo just start up over the previous root? and when I take the SD card out, I will boot into the stock BN programs, correct?

Are all the apps I download while in Froyo going to be on the SD card and be avaliable there every time I use the SD card to root?

I assume that the previous auto rooter (Eclair?) will be gone, along with all my current apps unless I restore it to the SD card.

Thanks

Does it really run off sd card

it said put the sd card in and while it is in it will run. does that mean it will go back to regular nook if you take it out. if it does is there any trace that you ran nookie

I could not find the answer to this question on the forum. I am having the same problem.
Any idaes on how to overcome this would be great fully appreciated.
thanks.

Apologies for this newbie issue. I downloaded Win32DiskImager ( win32diskimager-RELEASE-0.2-r23-win32.zip), along with the lastest version of Nookie (nookie-froyo-SDIMAGE_2GB-0.6.6.img.gz). I unzipped the Nookie image using 7-ZIP (ending image file was about 1.8Gb in size).

Using Win32diskimager, I then wrote the image file onto a blank 4GB (class 6) microSD card. After writing the image, I checked the card from file explorer and saw the following files:
- MLO
- u-boot.bin
- uImage
- uRamdisk

The total size of the files were very small, less than 3MB. I then placed the microSD card in the Nook (running 1.1 firmware) and turned it on. Instead of booting into Froyo, it boots into the stock Nook firmware.

I downloaded the firmware image again and used WinRAR, then burned the SD card using WinImage, but same result. Am I doing something wrong?

Apologies for this basic question. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Me too...

I also had issues with this...I went the cm7 route which was much easier. The interfaces are all about the same IMHO. CM7 seems to be used in a wider audience as well....

I am having some trouble, I cannot find the nook when doing adb devices in cmd. I was trying to push the google apk file but i guess i don't have the appropriate drivers. My computer (running windows vista 64 bit) did an auto search for drivers when i plugged in the usb, but it could not find any and i was asked to insert a cd- I don't think there is or was any that came with the nook. Does anyone have the latest drivers?
