How to not loose root when allowing ota to upgrade

Running rooted stock image. Let the 4.2.2 upgrade happen, but never got the prompt to preserve root (using clockwork).

How can I preserve root through these ota updates?

Just re-root.. Takes 5 seconds, flash the SU or SuperSU zip you did to root the first time

How? Without root I can't get cw to flash and stock recovery doesn't let me flash a zip.

Fastboot. Boot to bootloader and boot into the custom recovery image using
fastboot boot nameofrecovery.img

Then flash the zip.
