Download Jet audio basic from play store. It organises music from folders.I am using this in all my android devices. No need to create playlists. It plays from your native folders.

ok so basically i organize certain music into certain folders the way i want to listen to them. sometimes i don't even organize them by the same genre. it's just a personal preference. in IOS, i would just make a respective playlist for each folder and i would have my music organized the way i want.

however on my nexus 4, even when i transfer my music by the folders i made, it i would just use the metadata and organize the music the way it wants, totally ruining my structure. how can i make it so the music would stay in whatever folder i put it in?

Cant you use the create playlist option and just create playlists on your phone? Also one of the good things about android is that there are hundred of replacements apps (often better) which can be made default to get your problems solved

Sorry to say we won't do that.
It's just not commercially viable for Google to allow you to retain your own personal folder structure. To be able to be commercially viable, offering the huge space and great services we give, we need to override your own personal structuring, you need to be flattened to one of our standard profiles. Otherwise our rather simple and greedy ad- and mining software just doesn't understand.

I apologise. Hope you understand. Computer says "No", for the moment.
We're working on it though!

Regards, Nick

P.s. I'm replying on behalf of the entire internet business community, I'm not affiliated with Google Inc. in any way. Well, I am a bit actually. I'm a paying slave -oops- customer.

Hey mate,

Might be a little too late since you posted in 2012.

but if you open the stock Music-app that was included in the phone. on the preferences tab (top right) -> Edit tabs -> Tick Folders.

That will enable you to view your music by the folders you organize them in.

Hope that helps :)

After trying several things and reading these posts, I tried this and it worked.
i. While attached to laptop computer, open Samsung Galaxy 5 in Windows Explorer and open the "Music" folder.
ii. Open a separate Windows Explorer. Find the music (which I have organized in folders by album).
iii. Drag the folders from source Windows Explorer window to Samsung Galaxy 5 "Music" folder.
It all turned up -- Each album as a folder.

In other words, do all your organizing on your computer, then just drag it in to your phone under the Music folder.

I did this before and some music it wouldn't see.

Can you choose how to organize your music? Like 'Sort by Artist'...'Sort by Title' and such? See if you can scroll through the choices and find Folders or Playlists.

I have an Android and the Music Player app does!:D

I think the only way to organise your downloaded music is
Go to
Play music
Settings
Downloaded only
Now you have all of your downloaded music organised accordingly

Thats what i figured and thats what exactly i wanted from my phone to do for me...
