How To: Remove City ID Software

It does in fact just disable the program and hide the icon. It still shows up under Manage Applications.

Still, at least it gets rid of the icon. I wish all of the pre-installed bloatware had this function (better yet, I wish it could all be completely removed).

If I'm not mistaken, CityID used to start automatically when my phone booted up and ran as a background service, but no longer does this.

It's worth it just for this.

So this is the app that's incorrectly identifying the city? I dial local numbers in LA and under the number it says "Washington D.C." WTF?

City ID was so useless and I'm glad the icon is now gone! I was never able to remove this from my Motorola Droid 2 or at least it didn't seem possible.

Worked like a charm on my TBolt. CityID is removed! One less piece of crapware! If only I could do the same with the Verizon crapware on the phone!

I was just able to uninstall this bloatware very easily.

It comes with an automatic free trial which I never wanted in the first place. Messing around with it I found a way to stop it and remove the damn thing.

1. Open CityID
2. Click on "Subscription Status" then "Stop Free Trial"
3. Click Confirm
4. Click Remove Software
5. Click Confirm
6. Less Bloat on your phone

Now, I did this very quickly and didn't really pay 100% attention so the instructions may be a bit off but thats pretty much what I did.

Give it a try and report back
Thanks so much

Nice little find! Thanks , feel a little while waiting for a friendly root method to be available

Well, it is gone from the app screen but if you go to settings, manage applications, and then all, the fu... app is still there. I guess that at least is not running in the background at all :(

Found this method over on XDA. It will freeze all of the bloat on the Thunderbolt. As Adrynalyne noted earlier in the thread, it will come back with a data wipe. This IS NOT a permanent solution, rather something to get you by until we get a root method that does not wipe the phone.

YOU MUST HAVE THE SDK INSTALLED AND BE FAMILIAR WITH ADB! ATTEMPT THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!

Download psneuter and place it in your SDK\tools directory

Open a Command Prompt or Terminal window and navigate to the SDK\tools directory and enter the following commands:

adb push psneuter /data/local/tmp
adb shell
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/psneuter
/data/local/tmp/psneuter
adb shell
pm disable com.cequint.ecid
pm disable com.tunewiki.lyricplayer.android
pm disable com.htc.vvm
pm disable com.rhapsody
