How to remove contacts

My phone came yesterday and I have been enjoying playing with it and learning about it

However, I have discovered something that is annoying me. It imported the contact info for pretty much anyone I ever e-mailed from my gmail into my contacts. I do not want to have all that in there.

I like having my gmail and google calendar available on the phone. However, I do not want the gmail contacts to be in my address book. How can I fix this? Is there a way to delete everything? Or maybe there is a 3rd party contacts application I can use to get around this.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the tip. I did that but the contacts are still in the contacts search on the phone. Is there a way to purge them all without doing a factory reset?

It's kind of irritating to have random people I don't know, but may have emailed once or twice years ago in my phone contacts search.

Somewhere (can't remember at the moment - sorry), there's a way to stop automatically adding email people to your contacts list. I found it a couple of times and made sure it was unchecked. But when I looked for it to write this, I couldn't find it. It's a setting option - just a sentence with the ability to have a green check by it - or not.

Not much help, other than to let you know there is SOMEWHERE a way to stop this.

settings > accounts > google > Sync Contacts [X]

Thank you for this information. I've been searching literally for a couple hours to find out how to manually sync the DX and my Gmail account.

Previously, I had it all automatically synched with Outlook on my PC but discovered I really didn't need Outlook - it was just one more redundant step. So I deleted Google's sync program from my PC. Then I wasn't sure if I could sync directly Gmail to DX. Figured there had to be a (simple) way and Lo! You showed me how. Thanks!!!

Gmail has an excellent calendar and email fetch ability that I use for my pop3 accounts. Plus it keeps the contact lists current on both DX and computer data. All synced and all automatic! And able to be manually synced. Very nice.
