How to remove "ghost" network connection?

I recently replaced my Verizon router because my Galaxy S4 would not stay connected. Now, I am getting notifications that the phone cannot connect to the old network/router that we had prior to switching to Verizon over a year ago! The phone remains connected to the new router, but it keeps sending the notifications that it cannot connect to the old network. I tried the "Forget Network" approach, but this old network is (obviously) not in the Available Networks listing. The phone must have this connection in memory somewhere; how do I delete it?

Did you try wiping the system cache?

Well, it's time to "eat a little humble pie"! As it turns out, it wasn't an issue with the old network. It was with an email account that, coincidentally, shared the same name! After I recognized that fact,all I needed to do was delete the email account from the phone, and re-establish it... voila! No more issue! Lesson learned about naming conventions!
