How-to: Remove Google Search Bar in stock (Launcher3) launcher

The Google Search Bar can be removed from the default launcher (a modified Launcher3). You can't put anything in that space though.

1. Long press a blank space in the home screen.
2. In the home screen menu, select Settings.
3. Disable "Google Search - Include Google search bar on home screen".

I'd love to be able to re-size the command center, but i can't do it with Launcher 3, or Nova Prime.:'(
