i know this is the wrong forum, but i am assuming somebody else sold their hero just like i did and i was wondering if anyone removed their phone number from the phone before they did it. heck if it is even possible.

does anyone know the way to do it?

does it really matter once you sell it the person will activate it and their phone number will replace yours on the hero

lol i was bit same but the person i sold my hero to activated on the spot
try googling it and see if you get any results am sure you might be able to remove it somehow

1- Turn your HTC Hero cell phone off.
2- While being turned off, hold the "home" (house) and "back" (the arrow in the lower right corner)
3- Hit briefly the "end call" button" while still holding the "home" and "back" buttons.
4- Release the "home" and "back" button, a white screen containing technical information should appear, with a red message asking for hitting the "menu" button.
5- Hit the "menu button", the phone will now boot with factory settings.

Try this:
Home -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Google Apps -> Clear data -> Notifications (top of screen) -> Tap "Your account must be updated" -> Enter new account info -> reboot* -> Get your contacts back somehow.

Change Google Account without factory reset! - Page 2 - xda-developers

all of your stored phone #'s should be cleared. It did the trick for me.
