how to remove pictures.from "photos" and "media" apps

I downloaded and saved some pictures and video onto my z3 into a new directory i created but now the photos and media apps are both picking them up and showing them.

How do i exclude pics and video from these apps? Do they just scan the whole phone for images? Can i not segregate personal photos from downloaded stuff?

The apps don't, Media Scan does, and builds a database of media files. The apps look there to see what to show.

The best you can do is put a file named .nomedia (no name, just the extension) in the folder you don't want scanned.
